PhilPapers Profile
I am an analytic philosopher at the University of Bern, Switzerland.
My research interests lie on topics in the metaphysics of science, with a focus on causation and causal models. I participate in current debates about degrees of causal contribution and causal indeterminacy, and investigate the relationship between causation and responsibility. I have also worked on the metaphysics of properties, ontological levels, and the mind-body problem (and sometimes still work in these areas).
In August 2024, I received an SNSF Consolidator Grant for my project Worldly Indeterminacy. The project started in March 2025. A description of its research questions and main goals can be found here. More information will be available soon.
I am one of two PIs (together with Thomas Krödel, University of Hamburg) in an SNSF-DFG funded project called Beyond Causal Exclusion: New Challenges for Multi-Level Causal Models. More information about this project is available here.
My collaborators at the University of Bern are Nicole Dolby-Rathgeb (Postdoc), Matthias Rolffs (Postdoc), Jonas Werner (Postdoc), Zhengguan Chen (PhD student), Edoardo Fazzini (PhD student), and Sven Hirsbrunner (PhD student).
I am happy to supervise theses on topics in my areas of expertise.
